Davo’s Vanity Project

From his humble musical roots as a street musician in the towns and cities of Australia and abroad, Davo (Dave Harry Stephenson) has captivated crowds at major Australian festivals (Woodford, Port Fairy, National Folk Festival ACT, Fairbridge WA, to name a few) with his unique character as the wild and poetic front man of riotous contemporary folk band Waiting for Guinness. He has thrown himself down the gauntlet of complementary tequila shots during sets in Guadalajara, Mexico, playing trumpet and singing harmonies as a sideman to singer, harpist and dancer extraordinaire Victor Valdez, whilst sharing the bill with the likes of global mariachi powerhouse Mariachi Vargas.

Davo’s Vanity Project further showcases this unique musician’s development as a soulful singer songwriter with extraordinary talents as a lyricist, composer, arranger, and multi-instrumentalist.

Davo’s new album, “Resonance”, recorded and produced at the famed Funky Lizard Studios in Newcastle of award-winning guitarist and multi-instrumentalist Robbie Long (Mic Conway and Robbie Long), demonstrates the historical breadth of musical influences and lyrical depth of this unique, brass playing accordionist and singer.

Now, with its incredibly big sounding little combo, featuring the formidable rhythm section of Dirk Herbertz on drums and Alfie Miller Sharpe on bass, Davo’s Vanity Project presents Davo’s unique and original compositions as well as covering some of the greasiest, soulful, polyrhythmic, global classics of New Orleans, Rio de Janeiro, Vera Cruz and Belgrade, to entice dancers of all abilities, sizes and ages onto the floor!

Definitely consider the highly entertaining Davo’s Vanity Project for your next pub, wedding, festival or country hall gig. We look forward to seeing you there!
